Your Voices

Throughout this project, we’ll be turning to you, the community with lived experience, to hear your stories. We’ll be developing a Gallery of Voices on this page.

Our contemporary LGBTQ+ episode focuses on harsh prison conditions for transgender, nonbinary and intersex people — conditions that can take a serious toll on mental health. Read the first-person accounts below from five trans women and two trans men confined to the Central California Women’s Facility.
